Some of the richest quotes in the world come from the mind of the person who wrote them. Not only are they very powerful, they also speak to us. It is the things that you think and the things you do that shape your life. One of the most famous quotes in history is, “Think and Grow Rich” by the famed investor Benjamin Graham. Graham’s statement speaks to us as well, because thinking and growing rich is just as important as doing and growing things.
In his book, Graham wrote, “the process of thinking and working is the same thing as growing rich.” So, you can think more about how you can grow rich when you grow rich. But you can also grow rich by thinking more about how you can grow rich.
This may be a very silly idea but the idea of thinking and growing rich is actually something many of us struggle with a little. Some people have it. Others have not. I’ve been a writer for as long as I can remember. I’ve even published a few books and a couple of articles. And when I was a teenager, I got into the habit of thinking about how I could become rich.
The first few years I thought about how I could become rich. This was because of me and my very good friend Robby. He was a rich kid from another planet. He was smart, he was cute, and he was one of the coolest guys I knew. He had a nice house and a lot of money. I figured if I could do that, I could do anything. But I failed miserably.
This is a common misconception among entrepreneurs. Many people believe they can be rich if they are clever, smart, and have enough money. Even though the reality is that the same thing can happen to anyone. You can be smart, cute, and have a very nice house, and still fail miserably. The reality is that everyone fails. A lot. That is why you need to keep a little perspective.
My friend and fellow entrepreneur, and fellow blogger, Jason R. Rieber (at thinkandgrowrich.com) tells the story of his own failure. It was the summer of 2008 when two college friends from a different school set out to build a startup together. One of them did not make it out of the first semester. They were both unemployed.
Jason had always been a hard worker, but he had never enjoyed office work. Now he was laid off from his job as a CPA, and after two years of working as a contractor, he was stuck working a dead-end job at a construction site. He knew that if he didn’t do something to make money, he was going to fail.
He had this idea, for some reason. He wanted to build a website that would be like Etsy with a difference. He thought that if he could work remotely from home, he could build a website that would be more profitable than his current one. He would be doing what he loved to do and no one would be able to tell that he was working for a new startup.
In this same interview, he tells us he has a little bit of a problem with some of the people who work at his site. But as a contractor, he’s always up for trying new things. He loves being able to work from home so he will try anything. He loves working on the internet because he has no office and he can take any job that he wants, anywhere.
He doesn’t want to be a high-paid contractor, he just wants to be a contractor who loves the internet and the freedom to work anywhere he wants.
