We recently purchased our first piece of small jewelry business property. We had done some market research before making our decision. We wanted to put our business in the hands of someone who had experience and could guide us through building our business. This has been a huge lesson in taking the time to research and learn how to run a business in the real world.
Small jewelry business was originally a jewelry store (and I mean in the real world) but has since turned into a business. Our first piece of small jewelry business property was built in 1999 by our partner, a guy who’s still working with us. So, just a few steps up in my business and now I’ll build it up to be a really big business.
I think that if you have a small jewelry business and you think it’s going to be successful, you go into it with a lot of big dreams in your head. Like, “I want to open a small jewelry store.” “I want to become an expert jeweler.” You go into this with lots of big ideas and big goals.
Yes. It goes along with the whole “If you want something done, do it yourself” attitude. And, as I said earlier, I think the biggest thing to realize is that we all have enough of these big dreams when we’re young. We want to be an expert jeweler. We want to become a millionaire. We want to write a best-selling book.
The real question is, “What happens if you fail at all of these things?” If you’re a young person trying to buy a luxury car or a new apartment, it’s a lot harder to fail than if you are trying to go on a trip for a “first date.” The “lack of self-awareness” makes it much more likely that you will fail at these big goals.
Well, of course, the first big goal is one of the most important ones. But because we don’t self-awareness, we don’t know what to do. Most people who try to accomplish big goals are forced to do something they don’t want to do. It’s like an addiction, except the problem is the addiction isn’t just to doing something to get high, its to doing something to get high.
A lot of people feel this way about their career. The very idea of going back to school or taking on a new job for the first time can seem like the worst idea ever. But we are human, and our brain has a way of kicking in when we don’t expect it. We have the same brain structure as all of the other primates, and therefore when we are not aware of ourselves, our brain kicks in and tells us what to do instead.
That’s why I find it very disturbing that the entire world of jewelry making and small business has a major negative stigma attached to it. There is a huge segment of the population who feel like they are a part of the ‘hood, that they have to be ‘cool’, and that they are ‘trying’ to be successful. And these people arent just being’self-centered’.
They are using the brain structure of a small business to make money. It’s almost like they are saying, “Ok, I’m going to sell my products and I’m going to sell me too. I’m going to give my customers what they want” and then they go about making money.
This is actually a great sentiment. But the truth is that people who want to be successful in their lifetime are often working in a small niche market, not all of which is doing well. This is where small business people come in. They build small businesses in areas where there is a lot of competition. This allows them to succeed. And the best way to succeed is to give your customers what they want.
